About Citrus County Birds and Birding
Citrus County, located on Florida's Nature Coast, offers an abundance of activities for nature enthusiasts. It encompases a huge variety of habitats. The coastal areas of Crystal River, and Homosassa, offer a mix of freshwater marshes, fed by first magnitude springs, gulf influenced salt marshes, islands, and peninsulas. The inland towns of Lecanto, Beverly HIlls, and Floral City offer pine flatwoods, and hard wood hammocks. To the east, Inverness and Hernando offer a variety of lakes, rivers, and fresh water marshes. Citrus County offers some of the best birding in Florida, with 277 species of birds (eBird) seen seasonally throughout the year, it really is a birders paradise.
